“This is the 1st time I have
used Kids Klub and what a well organised holiday for my children,
Katy 9 and Edward 14. From the moment we arrived to collection
at the end of the week. They both said it was much better
than any other they’d been too; so much more fun. The
simple booking process, knowing all staff are fully trained
and seeing the centre itself. Just what I needed as a parent.”

This guide tells you all you need to know about the safety
and welfare measures behind the fun and adventure of a Kids
Klub holiday.
Kids Klub exists to assist parents and children in the
process of building mature young adults equipped to cope
with all that life throws at them in a confident yet caring
fashion.
A couple of days break for a six year old can help them
get used to spending time outside of the family unit, in
a controlled environment.
For teenagers, the challenges of the more adventurous sports
are handled under the supervision of our trained team. They
protect and instruct, but never restrict the natural exuberance
of youth for as long as it poses no risk to the youngsters
or their companions.
Staff
Our staff are the key element
in ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests.
Kids Klub’s reputation is such that we are able
to pick and choose our employees from a large number
of applicants. Our final selection is based on their
qualifications, enthusiasm, experience in the field,
and personality.
ALL staff are checked against the
enhanced CRB files and further child protection safeguards
include the meticulous following-up of references.
Nobody works for Kids Klub without passing through
a stringent interview and selection process, yet even
then they must complete an induction programme, satisfactory
completion of which is a condition of employment.
Even when they have passed all the employment checks
or system of assessments, appraisals and retraining
is designed to keep their standards continuously high.

Activity instructors have to hold recognised qualifications
from the relevant national governing bodies such as the
British Canoe Union or Mountain Leader Board.
Code of Practice
To monitor our provision for the safety and welfare
of your child we undergo inspections from organisations
– such as S.A.F.E (Safer Activities For Everyone)
and The British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA) –
which have strict criteria, all of which we have consistently
passed since our registration. We adhere to the working
practices outlined in the BAHA manual and those of other
national governing bodies. The British Activity Holiday
helpline is on 01932 252994.
| Furthermore we have our own code of practice
which covers where and how the activities are run within
each centre and adapts the national standards to our
own specific activity centres. Our code of practice
also looks at the ways in which we look after the children
outside of activity time on a pastoral basis ensuring
that the children are well cared for 24 hours a day. |
 |
Each of our activity centres has a copy of our code of
practice, a BAHA manual and their own risk assessment file
all of which are available to view by members of the public
upon request.

Activity safety
Each activity begins with the
issue of appropriate safety equipment and the most
serious part of the session – the safety briefing.
Our equipment standards are high,
so we discourage our guests from bringing their own,
other than racquets or golf kit. A logbook system
is in place to monitor all safety-critical items.
For all water-sport activities the appropriate buoyancy
aids are provided for all participants.
It is a condition of booking that
parents must note on the booking form any activities
they wish their child to be excluded from. Otherwise
parental consent is assumed. Furthermore should you
the parent not wish to have your children in photos
that may later be used in our communications material
(brochures, advertisements etc) then please indicate
this by ticking the appropriate box on the booking
form.

Medical care
At each centre we have qualified and experienced first-aiders
available twenty-four hours each day. As back up we have
arrangements with local doctors who can be called in as
required.
The booking form allows you to tell us about any medical
conditions, special needs or dietary requirements that may
apply. Medicines, other than inhalers, are lodged with the
staff who then supervise and monitor their use. It’s
important that we know of any recent medical history should
anything re-occur.
Who’s who
Our staff team at each centre are structured as follows:
Out of Activity Staff – Staff paired
on a 24-hour rota to look after mornings, evenings and the
few other times the guests aren’t actively engaged
in activities. They are skilled and diplomatic in offering
gentle reminders about such mundane matters as the use of
toothpaste and soap.
Indie
Co-ordinator – Each site will have a
person along with his/her duty team purely responsible
for the booking in and out of the children upon arrival
and departure. They will also be on-hand throughout
the day to make sure that the children are happy, eating
well and joining in all the activities.
Activity Co-ordinators - These
positions are filled by staff who may have a particular
qualification, skill or enthusiasm in specific areas
such as Arts & Crafts and Dance & Drama, thus
ensuring that these popular activities are well organised
and varied on a day to day basis.
Activity Supervisors
– Trained organisers of entertainments, team
games and activities. The majority work with us season
after season.
Activity Instructors
– Experienced instructors holding recognised
qualifications for the specialist activities.

Centre Manager – In charge of, and
totally responsible for, the staff and organisation of his
or her centre. You may discuss any requests or concerns
about your child or their holidays direct with the Centre
Manager.
The packing list
Daily guests will need little other than a change of clothes,
swimming costume and towel. They will have access to both
changing rooms and secure storage.
Those staying for longer should bring at least two pairs
of jeans / trousers or trainer bottoms, swimming kit, shorts,
sufficient underwear, at least two sets of footwear including
a pair of trainers suitable for getting wet, a coat or jacket,
washbag with a couple of towels, and a torch.
This is an activity holiday, so the clothing should reflect
this, being tough and easily washed rather than expensive.
Each item should be name-tagged.
We can’t indemnify for loss or damage to expensive
possessions, these are best left at home. Valuables, such
as train tickets, cash and passports, can be securely stored
in the centre manager’s office.
Pocket money
As the activities are included in the package there is little
need for large amounts of cash especially if your child
is just coming for the day. Most children staying on a residential
basis arrive with between five and twenty pounds per week.
Pocket money is ‘banked’ on arrival, withdrawals
being made from the Kids Klub ‘Tuck Shop’. This
meets the dual aims of guarding against accidental loss
and encouraging sensible budgeting.
Timings
Residential arrivals between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday.
Residential departures up to midday on Saturday.
Day Camps start at 8.30am and finish at 5.30pm with activities
morning and afternoon
Keeping in touch
We encourage the children to write, plus we have coin and
card operated phones and even a fax service if necessary.
If you feel it is necessary to phone your child ring the
centre office and they will arrange a convenient time. Mobile
phones are permitted but we strongly recommend that these
are handed in to the centre manager who will issue them
outside of activity time. This ensures that safety is maintained
during the activity time and that no phones are misplaced.
Unescorted travel
Pick-ups from local train, coach or bus stations are included
in the package, and for our foreign guests we can also collect
from airports and ferries for the cost of the taxi fare.
Just tell us your needs on the booking form.
Ups and downs
What really matters to Kids Klub is that every one of our
guests has the best possible time. If they feel that something
is wrong with any part of their holiday the children are
encouraged to tell one of our staff. If we know, we can
put it right – on the spot.
If a problem is fed back to a parent it is vital they inform
the centre manager or the team leader so we can act. All
feedback is valued as it helps us improve and adapt our
holidays. If anything needs bringing to our attention after
the holiday is complete, contact Maggie, a dedicated staffer
at Head Office, with whom any such matters can be raised.
Further notes
Some activities may not always be available, due to weather
or for those on shorter visits due to activities not being
on the programme on that particular day.
We reserve the right to charge for breakages or send a
child home should they consistently disrupt another child’s
holiday or deliberately break camp rules. For further details
on all our terms and conditions please see the reverse of
the booking form.
